state of the Net

So our friend's book has been published.  It's called "Sister Light" by B. B. Walters and I have no idea what it's about still though I should probably buy one for her to sign one day and actually read the thing.  I'm assuming it's sci-fi/fantasy like all the other original stuff she's written before.  She used to write out big long back stories for D and D characters that were pretty good.

Meanwhile, I haven't  doing fun things online much because I'm taking three online classes and doing kid stuff and pregnant stuff and packing the apartment stuff.  But I went to Fandom Wank and saw all the Cassie Edwards stuff while scrolling though.  Not that I care, because I don't even read in that genera, but then I read some post that mentioned I happen to live near this chick.  Lady?  You have a whole frickin university right down the road, go there and learn about copyright!   I keep wondering if I've opened my car door into hers in a parking lot somewhere.

These days, I'm reading a Bronte book, I'm up to season 2 in watching Babylon 5 (which I was wavering about at first, but I kind of like it),  spoilering myself on the Trek movie because I don't know what to think about it, and I am playing an X-box game because we got someone's hand me down Box when they got a 360.

I have no idea what is going on in HP fandom let alone any others (well, other than the lawsuit, can't get away from that).  I feel like if I can snag some computer time, I should be doing my classes.  Please tell me again why I am taking College Algebra over the internet after not having it for 10 years or so?

trek trek and more trek

The spoilers and casting and little tidbits being dished out for this movie are killing me.  One minute, I really really want to see it very bad, and the next, I'm very... How are they going to do that???? about it.

Either way, tis far beyond time I load up some TOS icons for this journal.  Like a kickass Uhura one, because well, she kicks ass.

Anyone know where I can find some trek icons?  There's got to be about 10 gazillion communities out there for them.

Harry and Ron this month

A little reminder to myself that I am reccing H/R at crackbroom for November. Which is so very convienient because I just recently starting reading Harry Potter fanfic again, so there's so much new stuff out there for me.  Really, if you ever run out of stuff to read, take a few month break and go back; it's pretty prolific out there still unlike half my other fandoms.

I stopped before and after my two readings of DH so I wouldn't get screwed up on what what actually canon and what was fanfic.  I'm ready to go now though!  Though I don't know if I am ready to write yet because I've tried and tried and only have a few sentences to show for it. Ah well.

why do I always let my account expire before I buy a new one? Tis silly.  Took care of that this morning, but not sure if I lost my userpics over it. (Not that I ever use more than like 15; one of these days I need to get off the butt and upload them off my harddrive).

I have this silly little thing I want to put together for each of my fandom interest, and one of them is going to be on My Little Pony because it's probably the first actual 'fandom' in which I participated.

Somewhere somewhere, I have some MLP fanfiction and some drawings in a folder that I want to scan.

This had to be, oh 3-6th grade perhaps?

I also invented my own little thing along with [info]vaudy and [info]dblhelix13 when we were little, like it was it's own cartoon strip or animated show.  Mine were birds all with very silly and third graderish names, [info]vaudy 's were all bunnies I think, and [info]dblhelix13 's were all cats.  And they had musical groups and crushes on each other and family dynamics and all sorts of really odd stuff.   Not sure what influences something like that.

I was thinking about it the other day, and maybe the influence was  the plethora of 70's cartoons where characters ran around solving crimes or having adventures and hell, let's start a band too!  Not sure, but I can trace my huge honkin nerd roots way back to elementary school, and that's could be a scary thing.  One only knows what sorts of nerdery my own offspring will come up with.

Pleaz to be stop blowing corn husks into my house, wind. No way am I putting the air on in October.

Why is there not much Potter movie gossip? I know they started filming already. Or am I just oblivious to some cool stuff? I am more O-o over how HBP will be on screen than OOtP. I really don't want a gigantic flashback interspersed between Hogwarts, 90210.

I really need to add more user icons to my thirty something empty spaces. And get off my butt and pay for another few months. I can't believe it's been a year. Now that I'm thinking of it, I wonder if I've paid for my other journal yet? Hmmm.

ETA: in case one of y'all wants to snerch the icon, I have it credited to angevin2 in my userpics. Don't know about the accuracy of of that!

So Illinois just passed this law that all students will be "required" to observe a moment of silence at the beginning of each school day. It takes effect immediately. Gov. Chicagovitch vetoed it in the spring, but the Senate overrode it.

Hubby is not amused. He doesn't want to do it, particularly because he is already forced to do a whole bunch of things at the beginning of class. Plus, he says it pretty much sounds like he has to ask to pray every morning. He said if he asks the kids to "take a moment of silence," they're most likely going to snicker and giggle and make farting noises or roll their eyes at it.

I don't know what to think, but I don't want him to lose this new job because he doesn't want to observe this new hoop. He already has enough to jump through for a job that pays crap and only offers personal insurance but not family.

NerdTests.com User Test: The Trekkie Test.

It says 8 % scored higher than me. I wonder where that factors on the geek scale. Thankfully, there were no questions about video taping yourself as a TOS episode and playing all the roles yourself with your dad's ancient VHS video recorder.

Or writing and tape recording an entire Next Generation parody adventure with a fisher price tape recorder, complete with background music you stole from your dubbed cassette tape of Voyage Home score. Where you made Captain Pecan trade Grobrain with monoxidol for federation twinkies.

Or no questions about writing a parody comic about TNG.

Oi. I'm such a dork.

But I'm still psyched by spoilers from the movie. Must find Trek spoiler community to find more.

In the spring Fandom migrates to more temperate locations in order to spawn...

shit.  I'm so out of the loop on all this crap.  Should I be getting a GJ and an IJ to keep up with potter fandom at this point?  I think I have a netbyrd GJ.

I keep seeing the phrase, "Mass Fandom Migration."

I can't help but think of this bit from Ghostbusters.:

RAY: Of course you forget, Peter, I was present at an undersea,
unexplained, mass sponge migration.

PETER: Ooh, Ray, those sponges migrated about a foot and a half.

And thus ends my musings on fandom migration.

I have no clue how to use all those mass posting clients or transfering thingies.  And do we know if these other journal systems can handle the traffic?  Having it crash all the time would bite.  Guess I'll go over to IJ and see if I can claim something.

And the badfic shall rise again.

MWAAHAHAHAHAHA!    Today I was sorting through crap in boxes and I found the long lost spiral notebook with the last chapter of "The Thing That Misbehaved" on it.  Woohoo!   I am going to fix up the series and get it beta read and post it as a one shot now, I think.  I started posting that thing back in like 2004 or 2005 I think.

ALSO?  I AM ON CH. 11 of  DH.  I am now quite throughly spoiled though, so I can take the suspense.  But I am taking two consolidated summer classes that end next week, so I can read for fun again after my finals.   Why am I taking math  and an internet course over summer again?

and finally:   Dear School districts in Illinois,

Please give my husband a job.   Here's the numbers:  17 interviews since April and all rejections.  46 rejection letters that will "keep his resume on file" blah blah blah.  2 paychecks left from his one year teaching position for 2006-2007.    Over 150 resume packets mailed out.  1 and a half spiral notebooks filled with addresses.

3 school districts that asked illeagal questions on their interviews. (ie: 2 x  Would you find it uncomfortable to work alongside mostly women?  What would you do if you were sexually attracted to a young woman you were teaching?  )

We're willing to move!  But we need to stay in-state this year because he only has a 3 classes and observation hours left until he has his masters and his middle level endorsements for math, science, and social studies.

Well, now I'm going to log off and try and read a few more chapters before I fall over.  Sorry to be ignoring f-list.  Everyone is talking about the book anyway and I can't really join in the fun.

Potterdammerung. Because it's so very clever.

Well, I'm avoiding most of my flist and the internet in fact to stay away from spoilers.  I'm guessing many of y'all are doing the same.   Just in case though,  does anyone have any advice or insight on Babalon 5? It's the next show on my "must see" list and I'm all excited about it because JMS wrote some of the best Real Ghostbuster episodes.

I've gone through Buffy, Angel, Farscape, Star Trek Voyager, Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis, Rescue Me, and now I'm rewatching X-files and showing them to hubby for the first time.   B-5 is the next one on my list of shows I've wanted to watch.  I still need to see "The Peacekeeper Wars" for Farscape and try watching Trek DS9 again since I conked out on that halfway though for some reason.  I should give it another chance.

and of course, studiously trying to keep myself distracted for the next week before  Potterdammerung.   Which makes me think of the  R. Ghostbuster  episode about Ragnarok and starts me back over on the JMS loop again.  I miss RGB episodes.  I should see if I can watch them somewhere or download them in a manner befitting my Dad's side of the family.

And soon we'll be back with your regularly scheduled fanstuff.

Okay.  So I 've finally reread all 6 HP books.  I've stayed away from Potter fanfic for months.  I'm ready to go.    I'm not going to any special release thingies this year like I did for the last book and last movie because I am broke and I know I'd be way to jittery about it.  And jittery Nettie means tummy-ache nettie, and I don't want to spend my first day with the book in my hot little hand with a tummy ache!

So I'm going to watch the movie and read the book and then write multi-chaptered Harry/Ron  or Ron/Hermione to soothe myself after riding out a fandom explosion.

And meanwhile, why does my damn WAND affiliate play the remastered Star Trek TOS episodes at frickin 11 PM on a Sunday?  I can't stay up that late, people!  I don't have a TIVO or DIVO or whatever the frick those neato recording things are called.  I have my ghetto VCR with time start recording that only records channel 4.  Oi.

I feel like I'm never online for fun anymore.  Between taking care of the kids, checking every school district in Illinois for job openings, and taking my two summer courses, I can't remember the last time I had a good evening in to play with fanstuff.  (Though I did spend the last hour or so on startrek.com looking for movie gossip.)

Happy birthday baby Sarah!

Not that she'd ever see this, but for myself.  One year ago today, I had baby #4. And pretty much kissed my freetime goodbye.  I can't believe I've been inactive on my old forums and journal for over a year now.  Thanks to anyone who has stuck with me!

So many things have changed for me since I started this LJ in 2004.  It's weird to go back and read old entries.  I am now in the middle of trying to separate my fandom journal from my more personal journal by moving communities I follow over to the other one and dumping old stuff off of this one.  It's really been sort of painful in one way and cleansing in another. cugami had me thinking about it today actually, on how sometimes you need to just restructure yourself once in a while.

This journal has been mainly Potter fandom and personal posts, but there are so many other fandoms I enjoy that I'd like to participate in.  I have a ton of Trek drawings for example, and I've never posted them here.  I am a big ol honkin trekkie or whatever they are called now. But you'd never know it from this journal.  I think it's because Potter has been the first one in ages that I have actually had fun writing in. The last one was My little pony, if you can believe it.

So look for this place to become more multi-fandom to represent my interests, and I also hope to start being active in Potter fandom again once the stress of the book is off my back. I'm not reading any fanfic in Potter right now so I can be ready.  I think I'm just overwhelmed by how BIG Potter is this year.  So many convention type things, so many people talking about it-- it's like how Star wars was a few years ago.  Just too big for me to enjoy. Now Star Wars is settling back down again and it's less stressful.   I don't feel like I have to keep abreast of everything happening.  It sucks to be a control freak when your fandom is experience fruitful times.

I still plan to make the occasional personal post here just because the majority of my flist is here and I have a buttload of icons on this journal.  Wow.  I didn't realize I had so much to say!  Sorry to be boring!

and fandom implodes again while I'm doing real lifey things

I had to have someone actually tell me over the phone about what was going on with LJ  since I've been so out of touch.  and that hubby keeps playing Neverwinter Nights on here grrrr.

Anyhoo.    Just in case potter fandom migrates somewhere else while I'm doing real lifey things,

My  Greatest Journal account  that I've had since 2005 or some crap is  same name.   "Netbyrd"

My JournalFen account that I use was actually started by hubby and is  "dodge_and_weave"    He uses that one as well just to cruise fandomwank.

winged_wahoo is the livejournal I'm in the middle of creating that I plan to move all my non-fandom stuff to so I can link family if need be.  It's empty now, but anyone is welcome to friend it if they have any interest in the non-fandomy stuff that I babble on about.    I started it a while ago and haven't had time to properly set it up and friend communities and so forth.

I'll still follow fandom where ever it goes, but I haven't seen any blog spots that I like besides here for computer-dumbasses like me.

fic pimp

I got my exchange posted today for [info]hpslashnotsmut  and it's Draco and Ron and very fun!  I've been a nervous wreck today because hubby was on a job interview this morning, so finding out that this fic was posted was a nice break.

http://community.livejournal.com/hpslashnotsmut/40777.html#cutid1

It's called "A Not So Merry Chase", Ron/Draco (but not really), and it's PG-13 and rather funny.

Other than that, I've been spending the last few days cleaning up my info page and friends list and communities.  It's been months since I have been really active here.   I'd like to get back into things again, but after leaving this thing dead for so long, I have been defriended by like 50 people and have dead communities on here, so I have to play around when I get the chance.  (Like now, where I have stuck 2 kids in front of the television and have the baby (9 months old now OMFG) on my lap sleeping.

I was last active on livejournal and in my fandoms when I was 5 or 6 months pregnant with the baby.  Now she's 9 months old.  Holy crap.  I'm so out of it.  Real life is scooting along fine for me right now though, so I can play around again.

It's funny. LJ looks different and I haven't even figured out how to use my Vox account since I got one.  Now I'm going to go dig for some icons.

fic dump- Surreal Forgiveness, Draco/Luna NC-17

Don't mind me- just fic-dumping here and at skyhawke so I can clear my hard drive.  I have way too much crap with really bad labeling.

title: Surreal Forgiveness
pairing: Draco/Luna
rating:  NC-17
Warnings:  OC death, sorta-voyerism, cheesy dirty talk, slightly cracky plot
Occasion- written for 2005 erotic_elves fantasy fest for [info]schmoo999Summary:  It takes a very strange sort to believe in Draco Malfoy

Fantasy fest prompt:    Luna/Draco, Hurt/Comfort  He makes fun of her but secretly wants to ravage her.  No hard core kink, like scat, whipping or the such. Some mild bondage okay.
word count: ~6600
notes: The creature involved was stolen shamelessly from a D & D monster manual.  Thank you to [info]pythonblossom for the beta work.
wow.  That's alotta data.

I can't even remember writing this story, and it was only a year ago.  It makes me cringe in spots, but I found the part where they fight over who has a better father rather entertaining.
ETA: OMG why won't this bold font go away and the summary sentence move where I tell it to?   URGH.  Computer/Sledgehammer OTP.
